In San Andreas 2, the seismic terror that struck California in the first film (2015) has left deep scars on the region—and the entire West Coast is far from safe. A decade after the catastrophic earthquake that split the San Andreas Fault, a new and more powerful seismic threat emerges, one that could potentially tear the entire American continent apart. The film picks up with Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), a former rescue pilot, now working as a disaster preparedness consultant, trying to rebuild his life and help others cope with the aftershocks of the initial disaster.
Ray and his family have settled into a new life, but their peace is short-lived when the earth begins to tremble once more—this time, it’s not just a localized quake, but a series of devastating seismic events, including a supervolcanic eruption in Yellowstone and a catastrophic chain reaction that threatens not only California but the entire Pacific Rim. As the tremors continue, the San Andreas Fault experiences unprecedented activity, sending shockwaves through the western United States, and even threatening the stability of the Pacific Ocean itself.
Ray, his ex-wife Emma (Carla Gugino), and their daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario) are once again drawn together as they fight for survival amid the chaos. As the crisis escalates, Ray is forced to assemble a team of experts and survivors, including seismic scientists, military personnel, and everyday citizens, to try and prevent an even more catastrophic collapse of the continent.
As entire cities sink into the ocean and mountains of debris block escape routes, Ray must lead the charge to rescue those caught in the path of the quake while also racing against time to find a way to stop the chain of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions before the entire West Coast is obliterated. The key to saving millions may lie in an experimental technology, but getting to it requires navigating through an apocalyptic landscape of collapsed buildings, broken highways, and overwhelmed emergency services.
The family dynamic will again play a central role, with Ray’s personal stakes intensifying as he fights not only to save his loved ones but also to protect a world on the brink of total destruction.
